Eye Health & Disease
Common eye conditions and diseases — what they are, how they're diagnosed, and how we manage them. Detection is far more effective when caught early through routine exams.
-
Blepharitis
Inflammation of the eyelids causing redness, swelling, styes, and crusting along the lash line — usually treatable with simple eyelid hygiene plus prescription drops if needed.
-
Cataracts
A clouding of the lens inside the eye that gradually decreases vision. The leading cause of blindness worldwide, but highly treatable with modern surgery.
-
Conjunctivitis
Commonly known as "pink eye" — swelling and irritation of the membrane covering the white of the eye. Most cases respond well to professional treatment.
-
Diabetic Retinopathy
A diabetes-related eye condition affecting up to 80% of patients with diabetes for 10+ years. Early detection through regular exams is critical — most cases can be reduced with prompt care.
-
Dry Eye Syndrome
When eyes don't produce enough tears, or the right kind of tears, to stay properly lubricated. Common, treatable, and especially prevalent in older adults.
-
Eye Allergies
An immune-system overreaction to typically harmless substances. About 30% of adults and 40% of children have allergies — there's a lot we can do about the eye-related ones.
-
Glaucoma
Damage to the optic nerve that causes progressive, irreversible vision loss — the second leading cause of blindness. Most patients have no symptoms; routine exams are how we catch it.
-
Macular Degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of vision impairment in adults over 50. Painless, progressive — and easier to manage when caught early.
-
Retinal Tears and Detachments
Tears or detachments of the retina — the eye's light-sensitive inner lining. Warning signs (sudden flashes, floaters, dark areas) need immediate evaluation.
-
Vision Therapy
Like physical therapy, but for the visual system — addresses eye-movement disorders, focusing problems, amblyopia, and strabismus. Children especially respond well.
