Overnight Vision Correction

Myopia (nearsightedness) affects nearly three million Americans annually. The condition occurs when a corneal refraction error prevents light from bending properly, resulting in blurred distance vision. Orthokeratology — Ortho-k — is a reversible refractive correction method that uses gas-permeable contact lenses worn overnight to reshape the cornea.

How It Works

Three steps:

1. Initial examination using a Topograph to measure corneal refraction error 2. Fitting appointment where eye professionals select customized Ortho-k contacts 3. One-to-two-week treatment phase requiring at least six to eight hours of nightly lens wear

During the correction phase, patients wear disposable soft lenses or glasses during the day. Upon completion, only overnight contacts are necessary.

Why Choose Ortho-k

Ortho-k suits those with mild-to-moderate myopia, particularly for sports or dusty environments. It can also serve as a pre-LASIK treatment, delaying surgical intervention. The fast, painless, and safe process makes it practical for myopic children.

Cost

Most insurance plans don't cover Ortho-k. Pricing varies by provider and prescription, with typical two-lens packages and appointments ranging from $900 to $1,800.

Candidacy

Ideal candidates include children ages eight to twelve with progressive myopia, adolescents and young adults with mild-to-moderate myopia, and adults under 40 avoiding LASIK. Individuals with Dry Eye Syndrome or severe myopia are not suitable candidates.
